Freshman Kaden Jones opened the scoring with a 27-yard touchdown run to stake Hampton to an 8-0 advantage, with senior Dom Burleson adding the two-point conversion run. The Panthers started Allen Brooks at quarterback, but head coach Nick Nash replaced him with Tate Murphy after Brooks’ second interception.

“Jones ran the ball real well,” Bulldogs head coach Michael Lunsford said. “We’re looking forward to getting him more involved to give Dom a little break. We prepared real well for this game. It was a see-what-we-can-and-can’t-do kind of thing.”

Brooks completed 4 of 7 passes for 31 yards but was picked off by Peyton Townsend and Maddux Wilson. Murphy completed 12 of 27 passes for 178 yards with two touchdowns to Hunter Gibson.

Burleson scored on a 1-yard run to make it a 16-0 contest, and Wilson connected with JJ Cable on a 35-yard scoring strike to make it 22-0. After a second interception of Wilson, the Bulldogs got a 65-yard touchdown run from Burleson with Peyton Townsend adding the deuce for a 30-0 Bulldogs lead.

The Bulldogs scored twice more before the Panthers were able to sustain a drive, holding a 46-0 advantage before Murphy found Gibson on a 25-yard scoring pass with 2:27 left in the second period.

“We felt like we had a good opportunity to get on the right foot,” Lunsford said. “We told the kids they had to earn it, they weren’t going to hand it to us—you have to execute and play well. I felt like we did that.”

In the third quarter, Jones took off on a 71-yard touchdown run, making it a 52-6 contest. Murphy hit Gibson on a 35-yard scoring strike and found Brooks for the deuce. The Bulldogs capped off the scoring with a 56-yard scoring run from freshman Gage Hill.
