On Sept. 20, 2024, at approximately 12:50 p.m., the Elizabethton Police Department, Elizabethton Fire Department, and Carter County Rescue Squad responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 67 between the Greenlee Bridge and Milligan Highway.
Upon arrival, officers observed two vehicles had collided in the westbound lanes. Due to the severity of the crash, the Elizabethton Police Department’s Specialized Traffic Accident Reconstruction team was called to the scene.
Investigators determined that a black Honda Pilot, driven by Christopher Derr, 58, of Elizabethton, was traveling eastbound when it veered off the roadway into the grassy median. The vehicle crossed the median and entered the westbound lanes, where it collided with an Audi Q8 driven by Michelle Davenport, 53, of Johnson City. Debris from the crash also damaged another westbound vehicle.
Initial findings suggest that Derr suffered a medical emergency before the collision. He was transported to Johnson City Medical Center by Carter County EMS and is currently in critical condition. The investigation is ongoing.
