The Carter County Sheriff’s Office has received reports of a scam involving an individual impersonating a law enforcement officer. The scammer is calling residents, claiming they have missed jury duty and must pay a fine to avoid arrest.
The scammer is using the name of an actual officer from the Sheriff’s Office and employing technology to spoof the number displayed on Caller ID, making it appear as though the call is coming from the Sheriff’s Office.
The Carter County Sheriff’s Office emphasizes that it will never contact individuals demanding money related to a warrant for their arrest. Residents are urged not to provide any personal identifying or financial information, including birthdates, addresses, or banking details, to anyone claiming to represent the Sheriff’s Office in this manner.
If you receive such a call, do not engage or provide any information. Report the incident to the Carter County Sheriff’s Office immediately.
