The ETSU Johnson City Community Health Center (JCCHC) will host its annual Community Health Fair this week on Saturday, Sept. 21.

Though it has moved from its typical August date, this year’s free health fair will still feature many of the same opportunities for a fun afternoon loaded with door prizes, food and, of course, health care. Attendees will be able to receive free health screenings, meet with providers and schedule appointments. Flu shots will also be available. 

“This event is always so much fun, and we are excited to welcome the community back to our clinic for an afternoon of fun, learning and health care,” said Vanessa Smith, practice administrator at the JCCHC. “Our goal is to help break down some of the uneasiness people can have when seeking health care and support a healthier community by making health care approachable and fun for the whole family.”

The fair will be held at the Johnson City Community Health Center, located at 2151 Century Lane, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This year’s fair will also include a community garden harvest. 

“Thanks to our truly incredible community partners, staff and volunteers, we were able to bring the community garden back this year,” said Smith. “Health is so much more than just visiting the doctor’s office, and this is just one more avenue for us to help support our patients and community by providing them with access to fresh, healthy produce.” 

The JCCHC provides evidence-based care for patients seeking primary care, prenatal care and/or socialization needs for various population groups in the community. It is one of the few nurse-managed community health centers in the nation to be designated as a Federally Qualified Health Center, a prestigious marker that means the facility meets a range of nationally accepted standards.

The center is also part of the ETSU College of Nursing’s network of nurse-managed health centers and houses the ETSU Charitable Pharmacy, which recently celebrated 10 years of service to the community.
