The Carter County Commission approved leadership and committee roles on Monday during its annual organization meeting.
Each September, the 24-member commission meets to fill various committee seats and the commission’s chairperson and vice-chairperson.
Ginger Holdren, who has served as a commissioner in the 5th District since 2018, was reelected as the commission’s chairperson. She was first selected to lead the commission in 2021.
The commission also approved Kelly Collins to continue to serve as vice chairperson.
Both Holdren and Collins were selected to lead the commission by acclamation.
Holdren then led the commission to fill several committees. District by district, commissioners called out the names of the committees they wanted to participate in. Several commissioners will sit on the same committees, while others will move around. A couple recently added commissioners have also been appointed to committees.
The Budget Committee and Nominating Committee will consist of Robert “Bob” Acuff, Julie Guinn, Brad Johnson, Danny Deal, Holdren, Todd Smith, Lesley Hughes and Jerry Stout. Acuff previously served as the Budget Committee’s chairperson.
The Rules and Bylaws Committee, Building and Grounds Committee, Law Enforcement Committee and Health and Welfare Committee, which all meet on the same night and include the same members, will include Nick Holder, Avery Wynn, Angie Odom, Jerry Proffitt, Charlene Thomas, Jason Clawson, Aaron Frazier and Collins.
The Education Committee, Highway Committee and Landfill Committee, which all meet on the same night and also include the same members, will include Nancy Brown, Willie Campbell, Steve Burrough, Gary Kemp, Lisa Childress, Donnie Cable, Jason Rasnick and Thomas Proffitt.
Commissioners nominated several individuals to sit on the Financial Management Committee, which includes four commissioners, as well as others. The four commissioners with the most votes included Acuff, 19 votes; Johnson, 19 votes; Deal, 6 votes; and Stout, 18 votes.
“Those four will make up your Financial Management Committee for the coming year,” Holdren said.
The commission also placed two commissioners onto the county’s Beer Board. Smith and Wynn will now sit on the board.
