Randal Lynn Buck, 67, of Johnson City, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024, at Johnson City Medical Center. He was born July 20, 1957, in Elizabethton. Randal was a graduate of Happy Valley High School. In earlier years, he was employed by the Carter County Sheriff’s Department, Unicoi County Sheriff’s Department, where he was a sergeant, and the Erwin Police Department. Randal also worked at Nuclear Fuel. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was preceded in death by his brother, Todd Buck.
Survivors include his wife, Tammy Sutphin Buck; two children, Tifanie Smith and Taylor Phillips; four grandchildren, Rylee, Paisley, Daisy, and Haileigh; his parents, Jerry and Frances Humphreys Buck; three sisters, Tammy (Paul) Carroll, Melissa (Gary) Shockley, and Amy (Kevin) Grindstaff; two brothers, Anthony (Darlene) Buck and Eric Buck; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins; a very special friend, Royce Sutphin; and a very special uncle, Jack (Geraldine) Humphreys.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024, in Happy Valley Memorial Park with Pastor Rusty Verran officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Thursday.
