Teen arrested for threat of violence against Happy Valley High School

A 15-year-old student at Happy Valley High School has been arrested after allegedly making a threat of violence involving firearms against the school.
The Carter County Sheriff’s Office received information on Sept. 11, 2024, regarding a social media post that indicated a potential threat towards the high school. An investigation was promptly launched, involving the Carter County Sheriff’s Office, Elizabethton Police Department, and the Department of Homeland Security.
Authorities identified a person of interest, who was found to be responsible for the threat. The investigation led to the arrest of the 15-year-old male student.
The teenager has been charged with Threat of Mass Violence on School Property and is currently being detained pending judicial review. Further details about the incident and the identity of the student have not been released.
