Junior Gabe McDougald scored on a 38-yard run in the fourth quarter to help Happy Valley snap a four-game losing skid to Hampton and gain a conference victory, 19-12.

“Gabe had to start against Unicoi County for Aiden,” Warriors head coach Jason Jarrett said. “He is a converted running back, and he has done a good job.”

Happy Valley drove 67 yards on 19 plays, with sophomore fullback Tyler Berry scoring on a one-yard plunge for a 6-0 Warriors lead. On Hampton’s opening drive in the second period, tragedy struck when Berry was seriously injured and was taken by ambulance to the hospital with what may have been a neck injury.

Senior Dom Burleson cashed in on Hampton’s 64-yard drive with a nine-yard run to tie the score at 6-6. The Bulldogs capitalized on a negative two-yard punt from Happy Valley, and Burleson capped a 42-yard drive with a 15-yard scoring run for a 12-6 Hampton lead at the half.
