The Salvation Army of Johnson City is hosting a “Yard Giveaway” event Saturday, Sept. 21, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. The yard giveaway is designed to provide community members with various donated items. Due to an excess of donations that are not for resale, these items will be available at no charge. Available items include children’s clothes, children’s books, youth posters, poster boards, humidifiers, household electronics, bike parts, craft and kitchen supplies, and Christmas décor. While there will be some limits on the number of items each individual can take, all items are free of charge. The event will take place in the back parking lot; therefore, attendees are requested to park elsewhere. Participants will be asked to sign for the items they receive.
This event is made possible with the support of First Christian Church’s Love JC volunteer team and a student group from Eastern Tennessee State University. “We are grateful for their partnership and commitment to helping our community,” a spokesperson for the Salvation Army said.
“We are blessed with generous donations from our community, and when those donations exceed our needs, we want to ensure they go to good use,” said Major Maureen Diffley, Corps Officer of The Salvation Army in Johnson City. “By giving these items away, we hope to provide some relief and joy to those who may need a little extra support. This giveaway is a way for us to live out our mission of serving the community and meeting human needs without discrimination.”
