Once again, it was Mason Wilson who turned in the low score of the day on the boys’ side, playing even through 9 holes and finishing with a 45. His round included sinking a 35-foot chip shot to record an eagle on the 7th hole. Happy Valley’s Colton Pemberton recorded a solid 41 for the afternoon.

For the girls, Happy Valley’s Cayden Anderson shot a 45 to take the low score of the day, while Unaka’s Lakyn Stevens posted a 48 to finish in second place.

Milligan University commit Mason Wilson knows what he needs to do next week. “I have really been working on my short game and keeping the ball in play. I need to minimize the big scores, two-putt, and take advantage of my birdie opportunities,” Wilson said.

Happy Valley head coach Gene Renfro understood what today’s round meant for his squad. “This is an opportunity to fine-tune; we know what we have to work on. They know what to expect, and they know what it means if they play well in the district tournament next Friday,” Renfro said.

On the team side for the boys, Johnson County shot a 167, while Unaka finished at 185 and Hampton at 215. For the girls, Unaka just edged Happy Valley, winning 100-101.

Unaka head coach Travis Sommers praised his team’s preparation and looks for solid play next week. “We are trying to get ourselves ready to compete. Mason (Wilson) is playing some good golf right now, and all our other golfers are starting to show improvement. We just want to transfer that into next week,” Sommers added.
