Hope for Victims to host National Day of Remembrance for Murdered Victims

JONESBOROUGH – Hope for Victims will host National Day of Remembrance for Murdered Victims on Sunday, Sept. 22, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the International Storytelling Center in the Sara Hickey Keys Storytelling Parlor located at 100 W. Main Street in Jonesborough.
The event will have speakers from the 1st Judicial District Attorney’s Office, General Steve Finney, and the 2nd Judicial District Attorney’s Office, Barry Staubus. Local author, teacher, and keynote speaker Elizabeth B. Brown will give a presentation on the topic of grief and how to find purpose through pain while honoring the memories of loved ones. Anyone who has experienced grief is invited to attend.
Hope for Victims was founded by Joan Berry as a way to help families and victims of violent crimes after the murder of her daughter, Johnia Berry, who died 20 years ago this year in Knoxville. Johnia was a native of Bristol and graduated from Tennessee High School and East Tennessee State University.
National Day of Remembrance for Murdered Victims was designated by Congress in 2007 and is observed every year on September 25.
