A young Warriors team showed grit Tuesday night but ultimately fell in straight sets to an experienced South Greene Rebels team. The first set of the evening was the most competitive, with the Warriors often getting within striking distance but unable to overcome the Rebels, falling 25-15. The other two sets saw the Warriors continue to battle but fall 25-12 and 25-10.

After the match, girls’ volleyball head coach Brianna Mech acknowledged her team’s efforts and growth this season. “We have come a long way from last season. We are very young and still have no seniors this year, so I am depending a lot on my juniors to carry us. The trust and communication continue to grow,” Mech said.

Libero Jayla Remine had a strong night, digging out several serves from the hard-hitting Rebels; her defense on the back row kept the Warriors in the game. Setter Dani Lingerfelt performed well filling in for the Warriors’ starting setter, who was out for the night. Junior Trinity Bowers had a strong night at outside hitter, as did Keira Reese. Shaniece Gardner led the Warriors in kills and blocks and displayed aggressive play that will serve Happy Valley well moving forward.

The Warriors will stay at home Wednesday night as they take on Johnson County, with a 5:30 p.m. start time. On Thursday, the Warriors will hit the road for a county rivalry game against Hampton, with a 6:00 p.m. start time.
