HAMPTON — The Johnson County Longhorns faced the Hampton Bulldogs under stormy skies Friday night in a highly anticipated football matchup. Hampton won the coin toss and deferred, giving the Longhorns first possession. It took only five plays, highlighted by Juan Mefia’s impressive 49-yard run, to put Johnson County on the scoreboard with 9:22 left in the first quarter. Despite a missed PAT, the Longhorns led 6-0.

However, as the Longhorns prepared to kick off, a lightning strike forced a 30-minute delay. With games around the region experiencing similar delays, the game was rescheduled to resume at 8:05 p.m. More lightning strikes pushed the restart to 8:30 p.m. Ultimately, officials decided to postpone the game entirely, announcing a rescheduled matchup for Monday night at 7 p.m. Fans were relieved to hear that Monday’s game would feature free admission, ensuring a full crowd for the anticipated conclusion.
