The T.A. Dugger Jr. Cyclones finally got to play a home game, and they put on a show for the crowd, remaining unbeaten on the season with a resounding victory over Boone.
Behind a three-touchdown performance from Legend Pate, the Jr. Cyclones dominated the visitors from Gray, winning 42-0.
Pate wasted little time getting the home team on the scoreboard, taking a handoff from quarterback Creed Baker and racing 57 yards to the end zone with only 22 seconds off the game clock. Callen Reed carried the two-point conversion over the goal line, giving the home team an 8-0 lead.
Neither team could put any more points on the board in the opening eight minutes, with TAD leading 8-0 after one quarter of play.
Pate added his second score of the game with 4:52 left in the first half, carrying the ball in from the 14-yard line to make it 14-0 after the conversion failed.
TAD wasn’t finished in the first half as Baker connected with Max Fields on a 31-yard touchdown pass with 45 seconds remaining before halftime. The conversion failed again, and the Jr. Cyclones took a 20-0 lead into the halftime locker room.
The Jr. Cyclones tacked on another score in the third quarter as Pate covered 17 yards to the end zone, putting his team up 28-0 after Baker found Eli Whitaker for the two-point conversion.
“Legend was Legend,” said Jr. Cyclone head coach Brock Pittman. “He is a dynamic, powerful guy with a lot of speed.”
With the Jr. Cyclones up 28-0 heading into the fourth quarter, Carson Lyons galloped 49 yards for another score just 10 seconds into the fourth quarter. The point-after attempt failed, and TAD was in cruise control with a 34-0 lead.
On the ensuing kickoff, Rylan Peters recovered the loose football, setting TAD up for another scoring opportunity. Reed capped off the drive with a four-yard touchdown run with five minutes left in the game. Landon Reedy took care of the two-point conversion, giving the game its final 42-0 score as the clock ran out quickly with a running clock due to the lead difference.
“I was very proud of our defense with another shutout performance,” said Pittman. “It was a great night at Citizens Bank Stadium, and our fans turned out once again. We are going to get back to work and get better for next week.
“We will be hosting a very good Tennessee Middle football team. Go Cyclones!”
