It’s back-to-school time in Carter County, a time when autumn drifts in with a cooler note. As fall activities gear up, one particular event focuses on highlighting residents’ sense of fun and style.
The official “Miss & Mr. Covered Bridge Days” for 2024 is set for Saturday, Sept. 21, in Elizabethton at the Elk Avenue Bridge entertainment area overlooking the historic covered bridge. Start time is 11 a.m., with registration from 10 a.m. until 10:50 a.m. Entry fee is $25.
“I am proud to say that the Miss & Mr. Covered Bridge Days pageant is one that royally escorts autumn into our community,” said the pageant’s director, Amy Simmons.
There will be seven age division queens and six kings crowned, one in each age division. All contestants receive a crown and sash.
Age divisions are as follows:
- Birth to age 2
- Ages 3-5
- Ages 6-10
- Ages 11-15
- Ages 16-20
- Ages 21-49
- Ages 50 and up
The theme for this year’s event is “Fall Fun.” Any dress, gown or costume, whether casual or formal, should reflect the colors of fall to showcase through a basic walk to show off your attire.
The event – directed by Simmons, the reigning “World’s Classic Ms. Tourism” – is sponsored by the Elizabethton Parks & Rec Department. Judges, pageant staff and assistants will consist of local and national title holders and community business owners.
“It is such an honor to direct the official pageant of Covered Bridge Days,” Simmons said. “It’s always so exciting to see that every year the fall pageant grows. It always makes me smile to see families participating together, even moms and dads, brothers and sisters, competing alongside their children.”
