This Saturday’s Covered Bridge Jams Concert will feature the local country group The Dimestore Cowboys, known for their dedication to traditional country music.

The band’s origins trace back to around 2005 when James Brashears and Jason Shaffer, who plays bass, worked together at a locally owned company. The two discovered their shared love for old country music, with Brashears, a Middlesboro, Ky. native, sharing his recordings of old gospel tunes with Shaffer. What began as a casual idea of writing country songs and playing shows quickly turned into something more substantial, leading to the formation of The Dimestore Cowboys, originally known as “JB5’n Dime.”

Over the past 15 years, The Dimestore Cowboys have played more than 200 shows, released three records, and expanded their lineup to include four additional members. Travis Bentley has since taken over as the lead singer, with Tyler Petty on guitar, Justin Louthian on drums, Jason Vapor on keys, and Julia Wilson on fiddle.

The band prides itself on staying true to the roots of traditional country music, resisting the influences of modern pop country. “We are happy to bring this great group to our Covered Bridge Stage,” said David Nanney, Director of Parks and Recreation.

The concert is set for 7 p.m. Saturday at Covered Bridge Park. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and enjoy a night of music with friends.
