“We have been practicing hard, and the kids were excited to come out and show what they can do on the football field,” Jr. Bulldogs head coach Brandon Jones said. “Rylan may be small, but he has the heart of a lion. I’m really proud of all the guys. Half the team had never played before, so they went out there and executed.”

Hampton (1-0) opened the contest on offense and went on a three-play scoring drive that was capped by a 53-yard scoring run from Jones. The point-after run was stopped, so the ‘Dogs settled for a 6-0 advantage.

“He don’t go down easy, that’s for sure,” Jones said of the young running back/quarterback. “I’m proud of the guys in the middle; they did a great job blocking up front.”

Happy Valley’s first drive ended on a fourth-and-five from the Hampton 35 when Kaden Esterline was stopped for no gain, turning the ball over to Hampton. From there, the ‘Dogs scored on a 21-yard scamper from Gabe Vines for a 12-0 Bulldogs lead.

On the next drive for HVMS, they once again were stonewalled on a fourth-down play on fourth-and-two, where Jeremiah Capps gained just a yard. Late in the second period, HVMS quarterback Grayson Ensor suffered a right leg injury and did not return.

Hampton opened the second half with a squib kick recovered by Jack Taylor inside HVMS territory at the 42-yard line. Jones cashed in this turnover by the Junior Warriors with a 31-yard scoring run to stake the ‘Dogs to an 18-0 advantage.

HVMS went on its only scoring drive, moving 46 yards on seven plays, with Cody Roark scoring on a one-yard dive to make it 18-6. Roark led the Warriors in rushing with 45 yards on eight carries, with Esterline adding 43 yards on three tries.

In the fourth quarter, the ‘Dogs put an end to the competitive aspect of this one, with Jones scoring on a 15-yard run and Vines tossing to Parlier for the two-point conversion and a 26-6 lead. Parlier put the exclamation point on this one with a 46-yard interception return touchdown.
