ETSU Health Surgery announces a new surgeon to their Pediatric Surgery team, Dr. Andrew Trecartin.

Dr. Trecartin joins ETSU Health’s Dr. Brad Feltis, Dr. Leslie Taylor and Dr. Michael Allshouse, creating a robust team for pediatric surgical care that is unique to a rural region such as the Appalachian Highlands.

This distinguished surgical team brings enhanced surgical programs and trauma services for children at Niswonger Children’s Hospital. They share impressive credentials across pediatric trauma care, pediatric general surgery, fetal surgery, and pediatric urology. ETSU Health’s pediatric surgeons are board certified and specialty trained, operating on children of all ages to provide the best possible outcome for families in our community.

“I treat each individual patient with meticulous care, working hard to make sure they have the best possible outcome,” Dr. Trecartin said. “Pediatric surgeons care for the smallest, most vulnerable patients. The most rewarding part of my job is being able to see kids recover from an illness and then go back to being kids again – playing and having fun.”

In addition to exceptional fellowship training in pediatric surgery at the University of Colorado, he completed additional fellowships in pediatric surgery research at Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles, California, and pediatric colorectal surgery at Children’s Hospital Colorado. Dr. Trecartin completed a general surgery residency at Guthrie/Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pennsylvania, and received his medical degree from Loma Linda University School of Medicine in California.

Dr. Trecartin holds not only notable credentials and experience, but also a heart for serving others. He chose to join ETSU Health’s mission to serve underserved communities, both locally and globally. As faculty with East Tennessee State University’s Quillen College of Medicine, Dr. Trecartin will serve part of his time in Chad, Africa. There, he will help to develop a program to train surgeons and fellows in a region with extremely limited access to surgical care.
