A Carter County man and woman are facing multiple charges of aggravated child abuse and child endangerment after investigators discovered evidence of child abuse while executing a search warrant at their home.

Mikki Dee Moody, 36, and Sean David Moody, 39, both of 311 Blevins Hollow Road, were arrested on Aug. 15 following a search of their residence. Officers from the Carter County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) were assisting agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) in serving a warrant unrelated to the case.

Upon arrival, investigators made contact with the Moodys and a 7-year-old child living at the residence. The child was identified as non-verbal and diagnosed with Autism.

TBI agents took Sean Moody into custody on an outstanding warrant for abuse of a vulnerable adult. During the search, investigators noted unsanitary living conditions, including exposed electrical wiring and animal and human feces on the floor.

“Information obtained during the initial investigation led to the discovery of a brown-colored storage trunk in the living room area,” said CCSO Investigator Preston White. “The trunk contained urine-soaked blankets, a pillow, half-eaten pizza, and clothing with a substance consistent with blood.”

According to investigators, the 7-year-old child was allegedly locked in the storage trunk with food. The Department of Children’s Services was notified, and warrants were obtained for the arrests of Mikki and Sean Moody. In addition to the new charges, Sean Moody faces an existing charge from the TBI.

Both Mikki and Sean Moody were booked into the Carter County Detention Center on Thursday. Mikki Moody was released after posting a $75,000 bond.

The investigation is ongoing.
