Carl “Buzzy” Guess, 89, Chuckey, Tenn., passed away Thursday, August 15, 2024, at the Durham Hensley Health & Rehab Center, Chuckey, Tenn. He was born April 6, 1935 in Carter County to the late Ernest and Gladys Fair Guess.

“Buzzy” served in the United States Navy. He was a retired employee of the Free Will Baptist Children’s Home, Greeneville. In earlier years, he was employed as a maintenance mechanic for several places in Elizabethton.

“Buzzy” was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church of Elizabethton.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlene Burleson Guess, who passed away November 10, 2012, and two sisters.

Survivors include two sons, Keith Guess and wife Susan, Murphy, N.C., and Carolina and Michael David Guess, Columbia, South America; three grandchildren, Spencer Guess, Rylee Guess and David Guess; one brother, Jerry Guess and wife Brenda, Johnson City; and a brother-in-law, David Burleson.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, August 19, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Pastor Nathan Jennings officiating. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 1:20 p.m. Monday to go in procession to the cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at our website, www.memorialfcelizabethton.com.
