Leonard Earl Hicks, 86, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 12, 2024, at Johnson City Medical Center. Leonard was born August 2, 1938 in Avery County, N.C., to the late Alvin William Hicks and Georgia Dolan Hicks. In addition to his parents, Leonard was preceded in death by four brothers, Harold Hicks, Buster Hicks, Jack Hicks and Bill Hicks; two sisters, Betty Hicks and Bernice Hicks; and a granddaughter, Mandy Perry.

Leonard retired as an electrician and had also worked at North American Rayon Corporation in Elizabethton. He was a member and a deacon at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Elk Park, N.C.

Leonard was an avid beekeeper and enjoyed gardening and fishing.

Those left to cherish Leonard’s many wonderful memories include his beloved wife, Ruby Hicks, of the home; two daughters, Anita Perry and Rita (Eric Lynn Pierce), all of Elizabethton; four grandchildren, Eric Pierce, Ashlyn Pierce, Josh Pierce and Alex Perry; and five great-grandchildren, Auna Perry, Ella Pierce, Adalee Pierce, Everly Pierce and Layla Pierce. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A service to celebrate Leonard’s life will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, August 15, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton with Rev. Lynn Pierce officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel between the hours of 6 and 7:30 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service.  

The graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, August 16, in the Hicks Cemetery (1338 Miles Field Road) in Elk Park, N.C. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:45 p.m. Friday.
