Cyclone linksters capture second place in three-way match at EGC

It was a perfect, sunny afternoon for three teams that took to the links at the Elizabethton Golf Course on Monday as host Elizabethton welcomed Dobyns-Bennett and Daniel Boone.

The Cyclones finished in second place in both boys’ and girls’ action as the Indians of Dobyns-Bennett showed why they are one of the top teams in the state by sweeping the top spot in each category.

In boys’ play, Dobyns-Bennett, led by Jake Fowler and Blake Adams, carded nine-hole rounds of 38 and 39, respectively, to pace the Indians to the win. As a team, the Indians compiled a score of 162, eight strokes ahead of the Cyclones, who finished with 170.

Seth Whitehead and Tyler York each carded nine-hole rounds of 41 to lead Elizabethton, while Marshal Holtsclaw and Colin Phillips shot rounds of 44 to complete the four-man team scoring. Braxton Avery and Gage Stout closed out the Cyclones’ scoring with identical 45s.

Daniel Boone finished with a 177, led by Dawson Daniel, who posted a final score of 42.

On the girls’ side, a blistering round of 37 by Lady Indian Aliezah Robinson helped pace Dobyns-Bennett to the top with a two-player team round of 79. Carolina Smith’s 42 completed the final score for the visitors from Kingsport.

The Lady Cyclones were led by Sophia McKeehan, who carded a low round of 46 for Elizabethton to secure the second spot in the three-team showdown. Callie Moseley’s 54 contributed to the match total of 100 for the Lady Cyclones.

Phoebe Holly (55), Lindzie Swecker (56), Chloe Rockett (57), Clara Roe (58), and Abbi Cannon (60) rounded out the Lady Cyclones’ afternoon.

The Lady Trailblazers finished third with a 117, as the two-player team was paced by a 58 from Natalie Walls and Molly Green’s 59.
