The League of Women Voters of Northeast Tennessee holds its next meeting on Sunday, Aug. 18, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Food City Community Room, 920 N. State of Franklin, Johnson City. The program of the day is “Putting the Election Puzzle Pieces Together.”

Contests, candidates, and choices! Information, reasons, and decisions! Elections present us with all these pieces to a very big, complex, and important puzzle. The League’s recent programs have provided us with information to prepare us to be informed voters. We have covered a lot!

The August program will focus on putting all the pieces together into a cohesive picture in the lead-up to the November 2024 elections. Join us for this opportunity to bolster our preparation and confidence for understanding and choosing wisely, to share questions and views, and to help each other build our community where every person has the desire, the right, the knowledge, and the confidence to participate in our democracy.

This program is open to all but will be a very big help to first time voters. Reach out to a friend or neighbor and invite them to the August program. Light refreshments will be served.

Dr. Richard Beeman, historian of the American revolutionary era, cautioned us that “democratic republics are not merely founded upon the consent of the people, they are also absolutely dependent upon the active and informed involvement of the people for their continued good health.” (National Constitution Center) The League of Women Voters works hard to promote active and involved participation by citizens of this democratic republic. Come take advantage of our programing in support of voter empowerment and strengthening our democracy.

Watch for announcements of our candidates’ forums covering Johnson City School Board and Johnson City Commission races. We hope to confirm September and October events soon.

The League of Women Voters of Northeast Tennessee is a nonpartisan organization working to empower voters and defend democracy. Additional information is available by writing to LWV.NETN@gmail.com.
