An 18-year-old faces charges following a fatal crash involving a motorcycle in Roan Mountain.
On Saturday, Sebastian Rodriguez-Guerrero, 18, of North Carolina, was charged with driving without a license and failure to yield, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
At about 10 a.m. Saturday, Rodriguez-Guerrero was traveling northbound in a 2009 Mazda CX-9 on U.S. Highway 19E in the Roan Mountain community of Carter County, the THP said in a preliminary crash report.
A second driver, Jeffery Neal Clark, 57, was traveling southbound on a 2019 Harley-Davidson motorcycle on U.S. Highway 19E, the report states.
Rodriguez-Guerrero attempted to turn left onto Tennessee State Route 143, toward Roan Mountain State Park, and turned in front of the motorcycle. The motorcycle came to an uncontrolled final rest in the southbound lane of U.S. Highway 19E, and the Mazda stopped on the merge entrance ramp to Route 143, the report states.
Clark died at the scene, according to the THP.
Rodriguez-Guerrero was not injured. The vehicle’s owner was charged with allowing an unlicensed driver to drive, the report states.
The THP report said there was a 19-year-old passenger in the vehicle, but she was not injured.
Traffic in both directions of U.S. Highway 19E was blocked for an extended amount of time as the scene was cleared and the THP investigated the crash, according to Carter County 911, which posted a statement on Facebook.
