Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

To the Editor:

Our veterans have made great sacrifices for our nation, and it’s important to recognize their service and give thanks at every opportunity. The efforts of everyone that helped and donated to the fundraiser for Mr. Kelly Greene Sr. are greatly appreciated.

The outstanding turnout with everyone who attended and showed support made the event a tremendous success.

With everyone’s contributions, we were able to obtain and repair a vehicle for Mr. Greene. The generosity and support that was shown are an encouraging reminder of the difference we can make in the lives of our veterans.

The vehicle should provide Mr. Greene with reliable transportation for years to come.

A little historical information on Mr. Kelly W. Greene Sr:

He was born in Asheville, N.C. in 1958. His father was a Marine and worked as an Underwater Demolition Expert; this unit is now called the Navy Seals.

The day he turned 17 he signed the enlistment papers for the United States Marine Corps (USMC). This was following in the footsteps of 22 other Marine family members.

He recently ended up in the VA Medical Center for 6 weeks due to ongoing stage 3 COPD and congestive heart failure. A fundraiser headed by Ms. Pat Campbell was assembled for Mr. Greene after it was discovered he needed a vehicle to get back and forth to his medical appointments.

There were a few that went an extra step to ensure that our goal was met and happened for Mr. Kelly: Ms. Pat Campbell, Jerry Mitchell, Ms. Sharlene Franklin, B & B Auto Repair, Browns Mill Towing, Mobster Auto Detailing, Kings Mountain Post 24, Valley Forge, Pepsi, Food City, Texas Roadhouse, American Legion Post 49 Elizabethton, Jerry Pierce and Ms. Libby Hatcher, Dog Tag Brigade Veteran M.C. Supporters, The Bluesman and the Blues Essentials, Ms. Brenda Davis, Mike Denton, Willy Parmer, Nancy Berry, Lisa Lyons, James Harrell, Barbara McDaniel,

Ed Hodges, and Moe Baines.

For all our volunteers, I am so proud of you for going above and beyond, doing whatever it takes to fulfill your duty, to honor our veterans. I am proud of your selflessness that allows you to put others before yourself; for your knowledge that our veterans are worth fighting for and standing up for.

I am grateful for our veterans; the men and women who love their home and their country so deeply that they are willing to live apart from her and her bounty to preserve and protect her. I am thankful for he who embraces the necessity of war to keep that which is most sacred safe.

Sincerely,

Kathy Denton
