K.S. “Dick” VanHuss, 97, Elizabethton, passed away Friday, July 12, 2024, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. He was born January 17, 1927 in Elizabethton to the late Brown and Eliza Garrison VanHuss.

Dick was a graduate of Elizabethton High School where he was on the Basketball Team that won the State Championship. He also attended Milligan College. He served in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was retired from NARC as Operations Manager after 40 years of service.

Dick was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church. His favorite sport was golf. He also loved the Atlanta Braves and the UT Vols.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Etta Hubbard VanHuss, March 16, 2018, and by his siblings, Florence McInturff, John VanHuss, Margaret Doherty, Hazel Marion, Ford VanHuss, Harold VanHuss, Haskel VanHuss, and an infant sister.

Survivors include a son, Jeff Vanhuss and wife Cherie, Sevierville, Tenn.; a daughter, M. Lissa VanHuss, Knoxville, Tenn.; and a grandson, Turner Milan, Knoxville, and his father, Jimmy W. Milan, Knoxville. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 18, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Mr. Don Lewis officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Thursday, prior to the graveside service. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family would like to express a special thank you to Sherri Pearce, Gayla Combs, Makayla Constable and Tony Tolley for the excellent care he received during his illness. Military Honors will be provided. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 12:30 p.m. Thursday to go to the cemetery.
