Betty Sharp Lacy, 90, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away Friday, July 5, 2024, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home. She was born in Carter County to the late Leota Sharp Hammett. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, James P. Lacy; aunts and uncles that were more like brothers and sisters to her, George, Charlie, Karl and Jim Sharp, Maude Sharp and Mable Sharp Langridge; and her grandparents, Tracy and JK Sharp Jr.

Betty was a member of First Baptist Church, Elizabethton, and a member of the Messenger Sunday School Class. She had retired in Telecommunications, having worked for ITT and the Elizabethton City School System. Betty was a proud member of the Elizabethton Women’s Club as well as the Red Hat Society. 

In her spare time, Betty enjoyed gardening, watching Elizabethton Cyclone football and, mostly, she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Randy Lacy (Ann) and David Lacy (Kim); daughters, Carol DuBose (Jim), Barbara Hyder (Jerry), and Deniece Markham (Lewis); grandchildren, Erin Arnold (Matt), Thornton Lacy (Hollie), Eleisha Gregory, Jessi Markham, and Peyton Lacy; bonus grandchildren, Evie, Elliott, Emily and Emmett Arnold, Jason, Justin and Jarrod Hyder; great-grandchildren, Eriannah Earnest, Milaniyah, Ka’naliyah, and Legend Gregory, Tillie and Porter Lacy; cousins that were more like nieces and nephews, Susan Ollman (Jim), Jane Farmer, Daphne Mahagan, and Howard Langridge (Bunny), all of Florida, Judy Sharp LaPeza of North Carolina, Kelly Sharp of Johnson City, Linda Sharp Shoaff (Ray) of Colorado, and Wayne Sharp (Sally) of Knoxville.

A Service to Celebrate the Life of Betty Sharp Lacy will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 13, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Todd Hallman officiating. The family will receive friends between the hours of noon and 2 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service. Friends may also call at the homes of her daughter, Carol DuBose, or her son, Randy Lacy, at any time. The graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Gary Swift, Matt Arnold, Jim Holdren, Kaleb Holzer, Mike Hooks, Thornton Lacy, and Jerry Hyder. Honorary pallbearers will be Leonard Febuary, Rusty Melton, Dan Gould, and  members of the Messenger Sunday School Class. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the administration and staff at Ivy Hall Nursing Home for the love and care shown to their mom during her stay and illness, and to the love and compassion shown to them. Dr. Jonathan Bremer for the wonderful care he has given to mom over the years and for the “little extra” he gave her in the past year. The nurses and staff of Amedysis Hospice for the care during her final days. The family would especially like to thank Shirlene Sholes – you made her smile every day. Paige Sholes – you checked on her when you checked on Mammy. Janet Whitehead – her roommate and partner in crime. Carol Hutchins – best friends forever.
