Helen Avery, 72, of Greeneville, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 1, 2024, at Greeneville Community Hospital East.
Helen spent most of her life in Greeneville where she touched the lives of many and is now resting in the arms of her Lord and Savior. She attended First Presbyterian Church and dedicated her life to helping others.
Known for her compassionate nature, Helen always believed in the power of kindness and generosity. Her favorite motto in life was “pay it forward,” a sentiment she lived by every day. Whether it was providing comfort to those in need or lending a helping hand, Helen’s selflessness left an indelible impact on those around her.
She is survived by her mother, Thelma Avery; two brothers, Richard (Wanda) Avery and Kelvin Avery; a host of nieces and nephews; very special friends, Kathleen Copeland, Loretta Lyle, Laura Ellis, Charlotte and Chase Donelson; a special niece, Amanda Grooms and her family; and two people she considered to be her daughters, Diane and Vicki Waddell.
She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Deon Avery; her father, James Avery; and her sisters, Rose Blanton and Hilda Brown.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Jeffers Funeral Service at Afton.
