From the writings of the Rev. Billy Graham

Dear Rev. Graham: I nearly lost my life many months ago when I swallowed a handful of pills on purpose. I wanted to die and be rid of the anger that had filled my life, but a neighbor cared for me and called 911. Not only was my life rescued but my soul was saved. I woke up in the ER to a host of people standing outside my room praying for me, that God would save me and send a light at the end of the tunnel. I’ve grown physically strong; now I want to grow in my faith. I’ve received so many Bibles and don’t know where to start. It’s doubtful I can understand much of the Bible, but this one thing I know: Christ saved me from my own destruction. – S.S.

Dear S.S.: We shouldn’t be intimidated by the Bible or think it is impossible to understand. When God redeems a lost soul, He sends His Spirit to help us grow in the faith. This is done through the Holy Spirit who is our teacher. Scripture points us to the truth about God, about ourselves, and – most of all – about Jesus and His love for us. The Christian faith is not a matter of personal opinion; it is rooted in the unchanging truth of God. His Word is the constant rain that waters our root system of faith.

How can we be sure we make right decisions in life? By learning and applying Biblical principles. Even by reading a few verses a day, God will use it to reshape lives. His Word is a priceless gift, and He says, “I am the Lord your God … who leads you by the way you should go” (Isaiah 48:17, NKJV). All believers should ask the Lord to lead them to a Bible-preaching church to learn of Him and have fellowship with other Christians.
