East Tennessee Amateur gets underway at EGC

A beautiful, clear morning greeted golfers Friday at the William B. Greene Jr. East Tennessee Amateur at the Elizabethton Golf Course.
One of the elite golf tournaments in East Tennessee, the 29th annual tournament returned after a one-year absence due to course conditions.
According to tournament director Mike Matheson, 138 golfers teed off Friday morning as the first day of the tournament proceeded on time and as planned.
Flight play started the morning for participants, followed by championship play.
The tournament will continue on Saturday and Sunday, with a champion being crowned. Jackson Skeen, the 2022 defending champion, elected not to defend his title.
Some of the returning champions playing in this year’s tournament are Tyler Lane, Nick Cohen, Blake Howard, Bryan Sangid, and Ben Treadway.
Temperatures may impact play as 90-degree weather is forecast over the next three days.
