From the writings of the Rev. Billy Graham

Dear Rev. Graham: I’ve been a follower of Jesus for a long time, and still my friends tell me that I’m so fixed on Jesus that I can’t really do any good in this life. I’m troubled by this since I spend a good deal of time meeting people’s needs, giving me an opportunity to share the Gospel with them. Friends tell me I should get out and have some fun. My joy is giving someone something to smile about. Is the Christian wrong for always thinking of Jesus? – H.M.

Dear H.M.: The more seriously we take Heaven, the more seriously we take our responsibilities on Earth.

Life is short; none of us knows how long we have. We must live each day as if it were our last – for someday it will be. We should live for Christ now! Every day is a gift from God, and it isn’t to be wasted or spent in selfish indulgence but to be lived for Christ.

There are so many professing Christians who walk hand in hand with the world, making it difficult to distinguish between them and unbelievers. Those who have actually experienced daily fellowship with Christ, however, know that it surpasses all worldly activities.

Jesus doesn’t call us to escape from this world and its problems, but to confront them with His power and love. We are to be involved in the world – but without being contaminated, influenced, or swayed by its ways. The distinction can be achieved only by a close walk with Christ, having the mind of Christ, and seeking the leadership of the Holy Spirit every hour of the day.

To be heavenly minded is the only way to do earthly good. Christ has given believers an earthly mission with a heavenly goal. “Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth” (Colossians 3:2, NKJV).
