Summer Concert Series: The Repossessed – 7 p.m. Meet at the Park Amphitheater. Our Summer Concert Series continues with music from The Repossessed!
Concerts take place at the park amphitheater at 7 p.m. on Fridays. Bring a blanket, camp chair or enjoy our bench seating. Concerts are FREE but tips for the artists are appreciated.
The Repossessed are an acoustic duo featuring Truman “Buzz” Dodge and Ellie Hjemmet. Favorites across our region, they perform Americana repertoire with acoustic guitar and striking harmonies. You won’t want to miss it!
June 9
Doe River Snorkeling Excursion – 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. Meet at the Visitor Center Porch. Price is $15. Register for the event. Join in a high-elevation snorkeling adventure with Park Ranger Phil Hylen along the Doe River. Starting with an intro snorkeling lesson at the Visitor Center, the excursion will lead up the Doe River with various swim holes to explore local fish, crawfish, insects, salamander, and more! Your findings will help determine the health of the Doe River and any new species will be recorded. Be sure to bring close-toed water shoes to protect your feet. Wetsuits are not required, but average water temperatures can be below 64 degrees F.
This adventure is limited to 15 people ages 12+. The cost per person is $15. Masks and snorkels will be provided to participants, but you are welcome to bring your own. Meet at the front porch of the Visitor Center to begin.
June 15
Nature’s Night Life Tour – 9 p.m. – 11 p.m. Meet at the Amphitheater. Price is $5. Register for the event. Join Park Ranger Phil Hylen for a 1-mile hike along the Doe River and surrounding forest edges. This hike will meet and end at the Park Amphitheater across from the park headquarters. Along the way, participants might witness a light show of unique fireflies, find an array of salamanders, and experience familiar critters of the forest in a new light.
This evening hike is limited to 20 participants at a cost of $5 per person. Register your spot today online or by contacting one of our park offices. Be sure to dress for the weather and wear good hiking shoes. Participants are also asked to bring a flashlight with them. Red cellophane will be provided to place over the flashlight to save night sight.
June 16
Raptors of the Roan – 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. Meet at the Park Office. Join Roan Mountain State Park at the aviary (located at the park headquarters building) to meet our owl ambassadors and aviary staff. Participants will become familiar with the rich and unique diversity of birds of prey (raptors) found in the park and surrounding area of Roan Mountain. This is a great way to learn of many local raptor birding destinations and events! Of course, meeting our live education owls is an experience all its own!
June 24 – June 28
Junior Ranger Camp, Ages 8-12 – 8:30 a.m. – noon. Meet at the PIcnic Pavilion #2. Price is $55/Cloudland Elementary Students, $75/per participant. Register for the event. Registration Now Open! Learn about safety, plants, animals, bugs, astronomy, environmental stewardship, history and more! At the conclusion of the week each participant will be sworn in as an official Junior Ranger for Tennessee State Parks at our graduation ceremony and banquet.
Camp begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends by noon, Monday through Thursday. Our graduation ceremony and party will take place Friday night from 6-8:30 p.m. at the park Conference Center. An optional night hike will be offered Friday night after the banquet (families welcome). Registration fee of $75 includes a T-shirt, daily snacks, and a fun awards celebration on Friday night. After registration closes on June 1, registrants will receive additional paperwork via email including a liability waiver, medical history form, and information forms for each child, as well as agenda details and pickup and drop off locations for each day. Registration open to kids ages 8-12 only. Refunds will be given for cancellations before June 1. After June 1, no refunds will be granted (T-shirts and supplies will have been ordered).
