Much like other sports, track is a sport that pushes individuals and relay teams to set the tone in the early part of the season and then, as the meets go down the line, to continue showing improvement and pushing to better each time set.

For Elizabethton High School’s John Siepert, that was exactly how the plan worked out. Siepert took on the challenging 300-meter hurdles event, and with each meet, his personal record times just kept improving.

Siepert earned a second-place finish in the sectional meet that gave him the opportunity to shoot for a state title.

And while he didn’t take the top spot, his third-place finish was good enough to put him on the 2024 TSSAA State Track and Field Championship in Murfreesboro as an All-State performer while improving once again on his personal best time.

Not bad for someone participating in an event for the first time in their career.

But, the cherry on top of the sundae came recently when Siepert signed his National Letter of Intent to participate in track as a member of the Maryville College Scots.

Siepert was joined by coaches, family, and friends, as well as track teammates, for the big day inside the Elizabethton Commons Area.
