MORRISTOWN – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Morristown has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for portions of East Tennessee, Southwest Virginia, and Southwest North Carolina.
Today and Tonight: A few strong to marginally severe storms are possible this afternoon into the early evening across the entire area. There is a low risk for damaging winds and large hail with the strongest thunderstorms. Heavy downpours associated with these storms may cause nuisance flooding in vulnerable areas, but the overall flash flood risk remains very low.
Friday through Monday: Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected during this period. Some of these storms may become strong to severe at times, with strong gusty winds and hail being the primary threats. There may also be a period with a low tornado threat sometime from Sunday into Monday. Additionally, repeated or prolonged periods of heavy rainfall may produce localized flooding in a few locations.
