In a 40-minute blitzkrieg the Elizabethton Cyclones boys soccer team tallied 10 goals and left the Sullivan East Patriots devastated by halftime. The Cyclones got hat tricks from Tylar Jenkins and Drake Teague and got two goals each from Reece Vernon and Will Churchill.
“I can’t give this performance anything but an A,” Cyclones head coach Doug Schultz said. “They mercy ruled them in the first half. The only negative I could give I guess would be there wasn’t enough urgency to get into position quick enough. But we didn’t have to.”
The Cyclones peppered East’s emergency goalkeeper sophomore Josh Turpin who was in goal due to a broken arm by one starter and a red card violation by the second keeper. Jenkins got EHS on the scoreboard in the fifth minute and Teague scored his first goal in the sixth minute.
Jenkins scored again in the seventh minute and Teague got his second tally in the 13th minute for a 4-nil Cyclones advantage. It was Vernon scoring in the 15th minute before Jenkins scored his hat trick in the 16th minute.
In the 21st minute it was Teague scoring his hat trick and Churchill scored his two goals in the 25th and 27th minutes with Vernon scoring the final goal in the 35th minute of play. The Patriots managed two shots on goal with both coming on direct kicks from Jacob Turpin with Tucker Taylor handling both kicks with saves.
