In high school track meets, often an athlete may compete in two to three separate events during a meet.

However, for some of those competitors, it’s just not enough to whet the competitive appetite.

Such is the case for Elizabethton High School sophomore track athlete Camdyn Garland who competed in the sectional Pentathlon held Monday.

The pentathlon is a competition with multiple events which can be very challenging for one person to be able to learn and train in so many events.

For Garland, she not only competed well but found herself sitting in fourth place out of more than 20 fellow competitors and now awaits the outcome of the sectional pentathlons to be held in Middle and West Tennessee.

“We are not allowed to post/announce any times or measurements until the entire state has completed their sectionals but we can still congratulate her on getting 4th place,” said EHS head track coach Matthew Campbell.

There are five events that Garland competed in that included the 100 meter hurdles, long jump, high jump, shot put, and the 800 meter run.

“This is a huge accomplishment for anyone but especially a sophomore,” said Campbell.
