One night after rallying to defeat South Greene the Happy Valley Warriors on Tuesday could not repeat the feat, falling 11-1 at Cannon-Gouge Park. The Rebels (10-7, 7-2 conference) pulled off a two out five run first inning against HV starter Ty Johnson.
The Rebels had two doubles and two singles in the rally along with two hit batters and took an early 5-0 lead before the Warriors had an at-bat. HV (7-11, 3-6 conference) scored its lone run in the bottom of the third as Dakota Grindstaff led off with a single and one out later catcher Lane Parker followed suit putting Warriors runners on first and second base.
Drew Blevins grounded out moving the runners up a base and a balk call on Rebels starter Colby Brooks allowed Grindstaff to score.
That was the highlight for the Warriors who had just four hits in the game as South Greene’s pitching proved dominant.
“We didn’t get the timely hits we had last night,” Warriors head coach Nathaniel Treadway said. “We left a lot of runners on base and South Greene pitched well. We struggled to come back from that first inning.”
Johnson pitched into the fourth inning when he was replaced by Colton Johnson. Ty struck out one and did not issue a walk in three innings of mound work. In the fourth, he surrendered a double to T.J. Buckner and an RBI single to Pablo Rosario to make it a 6-1 contest.
A sacrifice fly off the bat of Colten Fillers made it 7-1.
The Rebels finished with 10 hits with Buckner finishing 3-for-4 with one run batted in and two runs scored. Brooks was 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of runs scored. The Rebels scored in each of the last four frames.
For HV Cade Kendall had one hit along with Grindstaff, Parker and Tucker Shoun.
