Joyce Marie Roberson Loving, 85, Gray, Tenn., went home to be with her trusted Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on the morning of April 15, 2024, after a battle with multiple illnesses. She will be missed immensely here but her impact was profound. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Johnson City.
Joyce was born on May 7, 1938 to Floyd and Margaret (Dye) Roberson. She graduated from Elizabethton High in 1955 and married Lawrence Wayne Loving in 1958.
Joyce worked at Range Auto Parts in Johnson City for five years and at Citizens Bank in Elizabethton from 1966 to 2001, retiring from there after 35 years of service. She enjoyed her church life, reading, genealogy research (the Roberson and Tipton families) and trips, but most of all, her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Elbert Roberson and William Roberson.
She is survived by her sisters, Wilma Lyons, Elizabethton, and Jeannette Fitzwater, Morristown; and brothers, Kermit Roberson, Johnson City, and Walker Roberson, Elizabethton. She also is survived by three sons, Wayne Loving, Johnson City, Wendell Loving, Watauga, and Matt Loving, Gray. Her nine grandchildren, bright lights of her life, are Andy Loving, Jessica Loving Walker, Wendell Loving Jr., Logan Loving, Danielle Loving Cates, Lawrence Wayne “Law” Loving III, Everett Loving, Landry Loving Webber and Matthew Loving. She also leaves 13 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Elizabethton on Thursday, April 18, from 6 to 7 p.m. with a funeral service to follow, officiated by Rev. Walker Roberson. Interment will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 19, at Washington County Memory Gardens, Boone’s Creek Road, Johnson City, Tenn.
