Milligan University’s 28th Juried Art Exhibition will open Sunday, April 14, with an opening reception from 2-4 p.m. in the Milligan Art Gallery located inside Derthick Hall. The exhibit will remain open until April 19. The event is free and open to the public.
The Juried Art Exhibition showcases the talents and skills of Milligan art, photography, graphic design and interactive media design students. Each year, a different juror selects the works displayed in the exhibit.
This year’s juror is Spenser Brenner, exhibition coordinator at the Reece Museum at East Tennessee State University.
An Appalachian native, Brenner earned his bachelor’s degree in fine art in 2013 at East Tennessee State University. As a student, Brenner worked for galleries on campus and in the community. Upon graduation, he served in AmeriCorps for two years as part of the arts and heritage team of the Appalachia CARES project in the Reece Museum and was hired as the museum’s exhibition coordinator in 2016.
As an artist, Brenner has a passion for working in the medium of collage. His recent collages are created using recycled materials of the very culture he visually describes. His art has been exhibited in national and international exhibitions.
“It’s always exciting to see which works the juror picks,” said Art Brown, associate professor of graphic design at Milligan. “We invite everyone to the opening reception to see the excellent work created this academic year and to support their classmates and students.”
Awards of excellence and merit will be given to standout pieces.
