Margaret “Marti” Slemp Tuelle, 74, Knoxville, Tenn., previously Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, April 10, 2024.
A native of Carter County, she was born December 26, 1949 to the late Oliver S. and Winnie Wilson Slemp. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Tuelle, who passed away October 12, 2013; brothers, Hugh, Lee Hasford, John L. and Jimmy Slemp; and a nephew, Greg Slemp.
Marti retired from James Quillen Medical Center with over 30 years of service. She was a registered CT tech which allowed her to travel and work in several states including the U.S. Virgin Islands. Marti continued her CT work even after retirement at Johnson City Medical Center where she would later fully retire to focus on travel and family. She was a graduate of Happy Valley High School and cheered for Gardner Webb University. She would later achieve an additional associate degree in radiology from East Tennessee State University. Her pride and joy were her family and grandchildren.
Marti was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church and loved her Sunday School Welcome Class, who had become like family over the years.
Survivors include son, Brandon Tuelle and wife Valerie, Knoxville, Tenn.; granddaughters, Shyanne Tuelle, Hampton, Tenn., Kendra Tuelle, Knoxville, Tenn., and grandson, Dylan Tuelle (Anbrigette Williams) Knoxville, Tenn.; great-grandchildren Ayanna Williams and Matthew James Tuelle of Knoxville, Tenn.; two brothers Jerry Slemp and Johnny Trivett (Jayne) of Elizabethton, Tenn.; four extremely special sisters-in-law, Janice Slemp, Jean Slemp, Ann Slemp of Elizabethton, Tenn., and Jeane Addis of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; an honorary sister, Janice Clark of Johnson City, Tenn.; and several surviving nieces and nephews.
The graveside service and interment will be on Wednesday, April 17, at 1p.m. at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Kevin Slemp and Rev. Joe Ledford officiating the service and music. Pallbearers will be Mark Mallasch, Jacob Tolley, Jason Horton, Neil Greenwell, Brandon Tuelle and Dylan Tuelle. The family would like to express their sincerest thanks to Covenant Health Hospice, Knoxville, Tenn. Marti wanted to express a special thanks to her son and daughter-in-law, Brandon and Valerie Tuelle, for their love and support over the past years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to “We Love Our Church”’ Oak Street Baptist Church, 804 Oak Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643. Family and friends will assemble at Memorial Funeral Chapel at 12:20 p.m. Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
