The Carter County Republican Party is set to host a town hall meeting aimed at addressing concerns surrounding the ongoing border crisis. Titled “Crisis at the Border: A Town Hall Event,” the meeting will provide a platform for residents to engage with local leaders who recently toured the U.S. Southern border with Sen. Bill Hagerty.

Scheduled for Thursday, April 11, at 6 p.m., the event will be held in the courtroom of the Carter County Courthouse. Not limited to party members, it welcomes participation from individuals across Northeast Tennessee.

Among the featured speakers are Carter County Mayor Patty Woodby, Sullivan County Sheriff Jeff Cassidy, and other Tennessee officials who accompanied Sen. Hagerty on the border tour. Reflecting on their firsthand experiences, Mayor Woodby emphasized the significance of understanding the border crisis’s impact on local communities, despite the geographic distance from the southern border.

During the tour, Sen. Hagerty and the Tennessee delegation visited Eagle Pass in the Del Rio sector, an area heavily affected by the border crisis. Engaging with local law enforcement, Texas Highway Patrol members, and property owners, gained insights into the challenges faced by border communities.

The town hall aims to address community concerns regarding the border crisis, acknowledging its implications on local regions. Abby Morris-Frye, Chairwoman of the Carter County Republican Party, emphasized the importance of allowing residents to hear directly from local leaders about their observations and the crisis’s local impacts.

The event comes amid heightened attention to the humanitarian and security challenges at the southern border, with immigration and border security emerging as significant issues in the current presidential election.
