Freshman Lyndie Ramsey has decided to transfer from East Tennessee State University. Ramsey, who is recovering from a severe concussion sustained during basketball practice, said there are several schools interested in recruiting her talent.
“It’s almost like you’re starting high school all over again,” Ramsey said. “You have contact with the coaches and since it is coming out of my school account I’m getting a lot of e-mails and text messages and instead of my high school highlights they can only look at my practice and game highlights. I have had quite a bit of schools contacting me.”
Ramsey left Unaka High School as the leading scorer in team history with 2,902 points and had her number 10 jersey retired by the school this past season and she was brought into the fold at ETSU soon after graduation but things have not worked out for her with the Lady Buccaneers.
When asked if she preferred to stay local she replied, “Part of me wants to venture a little further out, but part of me wants to stay close to home. It’s going to be an adjustment wherever I go.”
Some of the schools interested in Ramsey are Uva-Wise, USC-Upstate, King University, Western Carolina, Presbyterian, Memphis, Texas A&M International, and the University of Alaska.
A major determining factor in her decision of where she will land depends a lot on the curriculum offered by each school. Ramsey is majoring in elementary education and is interested in becoming a speech therapist.
“Any school I go to would have to offer these major courses,” Ramsey said. “My professors here have been great and I am five weeks out from finishing my freshman year. What I am looking for from any school I go to is how the players interact with each other and how the coaches interact with their players and the style of play that they run. USC-Upstate and Presbyterian I still have to visit and I will make a visit to Emory and Henry the second week of April. It’s pretty exciting.”
