On March 27, around 2:19 p.m., Sergeant Robert Scott of the Carter County Sheriff’s Department responded to a vehicle accident at the USPS building located at 433 Highway 321 in Hampton.
Upon arrival at the scene, Sgt. Scott encountered Jame Baxter, whose 2014 Jeep Patriot had crashed into the front doors of the post office. The Hampton/Valley Forge Volunteer Fire Department and Carter County Rescue Squad also responded, but Baxter declined medical treatment. He informed Sgt. Scott that the accident occurred when his foot slipped from the brake pedal and hit the gas pedal, causing his vehicle to collide with the building.
Baxter’s vehicle was confirmed to have up-to-date insurance coverage. T & C Wrecker Service arrived at the scene to remove the vehicle from the post office, and it was driven away with cosmetic damage.
