Susan Bledsoe and Linda Clark of the Siam community have teamed up to raise sheep on their combined properties, some of which are on Bowers Road off the Wilbur Dam Road.

All total, Linda said they have about 106 sheep and lambs as this week she showed off five new-born lambs, a first for them. “Usually, the ewes have no more than two lambs, sometimes three, but five is a first for our flock,” said Linda, who has been bottle-feeding one of the lambs.

Linda noted that the ewe gave birth on Palm Sunday to the five lambs, all of which are doing fine.

Clark and Bledsoe began raising sheep three years ago after Susan visited Amish country in Pennsylvania. “I had just bought some property from Susan and she shared that she was interested in raising sheep, and asked if I’d be interested. I love animals and so I was on board with the idea,” Linda said. “I think we started out with 20 sheep.”

A majority of the sheep and lambs will be sold to Amish farmers in Pennsylvania, however, Bledsoe will keep some for breeding purposes.

“It has been a wonderful experience for both of us,” said Linda.

Linda is retired on disability, and Susan, until she became a sheep farmer, was in real estate.
