The Carter County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) is currently investigating the tragic death of a juvenile who was discovered deceased underneath a vehicle on Thursday morning.

At approximately 10 a.m. on March 14, deputies were dispatched to a residence on Hawkins Hill Lane following a 911 call reporting the discovery of a deceased individual. Upon arrival, law enforcement officers observed a white Subaru situated down an embankment and found an unresponsive male juvenile beneath the vehicle.

The deceased juvenile, identified as a 16-year-old, was confirmed by deputies who subsequently informed his parents. According to the parents, they had last seen their son around 1 a.m. and suspected that he had left their home after noticing an open window with the screen removed.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the juvenile was allegedly attempting to steal the vehicle when it unexpectedly shifted gears, resulting in the vehicle rolling over the juvenile and causing fatal injuries.

The investigation into this tragic incident remains ongoing.
