Area Roundup: Lady Cyclones cruise past Longhorns

Elizabethton 10 Johnson County 0
Lela Byrd struck out 12 batters while just giving up two hits over five innings, the sophomore hurler got into trouble just once loading the bases with two walks and a single. Byrd responded by striking out the next three batters. Offensively the Lady Cyclones used doubles by Lilly McDuffie and Piper Bennett to spark a six run fourth inning to distance themselves from the Lady Longhorns. The inning also saw Sadie Williams return to the field after being shelved for nine months with a knee injury; she responded with a two-run home run over the centerfield wall to make the score 9-0. Emma O’Quinn continued her early season onslaught by going 3-3 in the game, defensively the Lady Cyclones were on point committing no errors.

Lady Indians pitcher Sophie Dean held the Lady Rangers to one hit. The Lady Rangers did themselves no favors by committing five errors in the game. Gracie Stout and Kimberly Proffitt worked the mound for the Lady Rangers giving up six earned runs and striking out three. Jill Faust had the lone base hit for the Lady Rangers.
West Ridge 8 Hampton 0
The Lady Bulldogs hung tough with the Lady Wolves but couldn’t get the bats going, as West Ridge kept Hampton hitless. Bulldogs pitcher Briley Davis showed a lot of grit on the mound, surrendering just four earned runs and one walk.
Baseball
Hampton 27 Cloudland 0
The Bulldogs used a combination of timely hitting and free passes to erupt offensively Thursday night. Jaden Kuhn went 3-3 at the plate and collected three RBIs, Elisha Henson also had two hits in the game. Noah Nichols chipped in four RBIs and a double in the contest. On the mound the combination of Kuhn, Chance Point and Parker Williams gave up no runs and just two hits over three innings of work. For the Highlanders Walker Gouge and Bryson Peppers had base hits.
Morristown West 5 Elizabethton 1
The Cyclones fell on the road Thursday night despite out hitting the Trojans 5-3. Bryson Rowland was solid in the loss giving up just three runs on three hits and striking out five. Logan Campbell went 2-3 in the game the right-fielder also picked up an RBI. Rowland, Jeriah Griffin, and Justin Whitehead also had base hits for the Cyclones.
Cocke County 17 Happy Valley 8
The Warriors couldn’t hold on to an early 5-0 lead as Chuckey Doak used a seven run six inning to create space in a close game. Tucker Shoun and Cade Kendall each had multiple base hits for the Warriors.
Chuckey Doak 21 Unaka 11
The Rangers couldn’t overcome an early Golden Knights lead although they rallied for 10 runs in the final three innings. Logan Lewis collected two base knocks and two RBIs in the loss. Parentau came on in relief for the Rangers and struck out six in two innings.
