Barbara Pearson Lane, 85, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away Thursday, February 1, 2024, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home of Elizabethton. She was a native of Elizabethton and a daughter of the late Dr. Elmer Tyler Pearson and Ruby Thomas Pearson.
Barbara attended college at Sanford University where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education. She taught at Harold McCormick from 1962-1967 and served on the Elizabethton School Board in 1973-1976. Barbara was very involved in her community and served as a member of the Women’s Elks Auxiliary, was a DAR member, Ladies Dental Auxiliary member, Women’s Civic Club member and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She was a devout member of First Baptist Church of Elizabethton, where she and her husband started the Messenger’s Class.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Dr. Harold M. Lane, in 2019.
Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Claudia Montgomery and husband Mark of Kingsport and Monica Hollifield and husband Chris of Elizabethton; three grandchildren, Justin Cooter of Washington, DC, Taylor Leichliter and husband Jonathan of Piney Flats and Kaylee Hollifield of Johnson City; and two great-grandchildren, Mason and Easton Leichliter. Also surviving are her special friends, Pat and Charles Green, Peggy and Jack Holly and Carolyn Dugger.
A Celebration of Life for Barbara will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, February 4, in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. John Bunn officiating. Active pallbearers will be Dr. Jack Holly, Chris Hollifield, Mark Montgomery, Justin Cooter, Charles Green, Richard Tetrick, Victor Deloach and Jonathan Leichliter. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton at 2:45 p.m. Sunday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home and the staff of Sycamore Springs Assisted Living Community for the loving care and compassion shown to Barbara and the family. Friends may call or visit at the residence of a daughter, Monica Hollifield, 112 Stonebrook Loop, Elizabethton, TN 37643. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations in memory of Barbara to the Elizabethton Animal Shelter, 135 Sycamore Shoals Drive, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
