William Henry Spayd, 91, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away on January 11, 2024. He was the son of the late George and Helen Spayd, and a native of Wall Township, N.J., where he lived for over 65 years before moving to Florida and finally settling in Tennessee.
In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Marie Spayd; his daughter, Diane Marie Chick; his brothers, George Jr. and James Spayd; his sisters, Ruth Wolfe and Alice Ferrea; a brother-in-law, Walter “Sonny” Gratton Jr.; and a sister-in-law, Caroline Gratton.
William was a proud U.S. Army Veteran and proudly served as a Wall Township Volunteer Firefighter for many years. He was a dedicated member of the Wall Kiwanis Club and worked at the Wall Township Public Works Department before retiring in 1988. He was also a loyal parishioner of the Wall United Methodist Church for many years.
Those left to cherish his memory are his three grandchildren, Heather Chick, Craig Chick Jr. and Nicole Chick; his great-grandson, Nicholas Chick; a sister, Shirley Spayd; his nieces, Patty Ferrea, Lynda (Rick) Verano, Penni Wolfe Replogle, Susan (Woody) Smith and Carol Carr; his nephews, Donald Gratton and Michael Ferrea; and his sister-in-law, Kathy Gratton Kozak.
A memorial service to honor the life of Mr. Spayd will be held at a later date.
