Conley H. Shell, 96, of Roan Mountain, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at The Waters of Roan Highlands Nursing Home. Conley was born in Carter County to the late Hubert and Faithia Vance Shell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline McKinney Shell; six sisters; and two brothers.
Conley retired from Inland Containers and was a faithful member of Morgan Branch Free Will Baptist Church. He liked to hike and being out in the woods. Conley was a wonderful storyteller and loved people and spending time with his family.
Those left to remember Conley include his daughter, Linda Perkins and husband Jim of Roan Mountain; his son, Larry Shell and wife Becky, also of Roan Mountain; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A service to honor and celebrate Conley’s life will be conducted at 6 p.m. Tuesday, January 9, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, with Pastor Jim Perkins, Pastor Bob Campbell and Pastor Justin Hodges officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Morgan Branch Free Will Baptist Church singers. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 until 6 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service, or at the residence of his daughter at any time. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 10, in the Richardson Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Robert Perkins, Wilson Burns, Mark Shell, Eric Shell, Josh Brown and Levin Suddreth. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the Richardson Cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Wednesday. Our gratitude to the caregivers at The Waters of Roan Highlands cannot be expressed. Their care for Conley was evident every day and he loved them all! We also wish to express our thankfulness to our God and Savior for giving him to us these many years.
