Peggy Hoilman passed away December 8, 2023. Peggy was born in Baltimore, Md., and moved to Tennessee after the death of her 3-year-old daughter, Paula Arndt. Later, she moved to South Carolina for five years before returning back to the mountains of Tennessee, where her heart was.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur “Bob” Henderson Barnette and Margaret Marie McInturff Barnette; daughter, Paula Arndt; former husband, Wayne Arndt; and sister, Evelyn Jean Windinger.
Survivors include her husband, Elbert Hoilman; daughter, Tanya Taylor (Mike Taylor) and grandchild, Chelsea Taylor; brothers, Robert Jack Barnette, Ronald Joe Barnette, John Paul Barnette and Bradley Wade Barnette; sister, Susan Barnette; stepchildren, Shannon Hoilman (Raquel) and Jody Hoilman (Tina) and their children, Mikey Hoilman and Chelsea Owens.
Peggy was a CNA. She cared very deeply about the elderly and was a hard worker. She loved to dance in her younger days and always had her radio tuned to country music. Her favorite band was Alabama and she often retold the story of how she heard them before they were famous while on vacation in Myrtle Beach and followed their success throughout the years.
She could keep secrets, cook your favorite comfort food, and make you feel special and safe. As the saying goes, “A mother is a person who upon seeing there are only four pieces of pie for five people promptly announces she never did like pie.” This analogy is a perfect example of Peggy’s attitude and love for her family.
You could come as you were, the door was always open, and she would not judge you. Peggy knew exactly what to say to make you laugh and had a calming way to help if your heart was heavy. She spoke her mind and you always knew where you stood with her. Peggy’s strength was one of her most admirable traits. She was a fierce fighter for the ones she loved.
It was Peggy’s wish to be cremated.
